Male Pecking Order aka the Hierarchy of Competence

The Playground

A female psychologist once sat down in a children’s playground with a blank sheet and started making observations. The first thing she noted was that every sound that emanated from the little girls was words. Some of it was singing though.

The little boys however made more noises than words. 😂That’s funny but true. Men make noises like the sounds of guns, planes, cars and many other things as part of their engaging the environment. The girls always speak.

The Fights

The second thing she noted was that pretty much all the fights on the playground were between the boys. The fights often got physical. The little girls hardly ever engaged in direct confrontations or fights.

What surprised her more though was that on the following day, the boys who had fought had made peace and were better friends than before. The few girls that had had conflict never spoke to one another again.

Men confront, fight, conclude, learn, resolve, and reconcile easily.  This process leads to easy upgrades in thinking and quick growth.  It also establishes the best man as the leader.

Pecking Order

No man has a problem submitting to a man that is stronger than him. If your brother beats you, fair and square, in a hard clean competition then you accept his dominance with very little if any resentment. Men are made like this.

It’s only when men are ruled by weaker men that there is ongoing conflict.

Boys fight much more than girls, but boys also recover from fights much better.  The fights are necessary to establish the hierarchy of competence and men love their Kings or Lords, as long IFF they perceive the authority to be rooted in real power and competence.

It’s interesting that over and above His perfect character, Christ is also the most powerful man in history.

Jesus is a man!

Despite His inner gentleness he also is exceedingly powerful and does bring every enemy into submission, willingly or unwillingly!

Psalm 2

8 Ask of Me, and I will give You
The nations for Your inheritance,
And the ends of the earth for Your possession.
9 You shall break them with a rod of iron;
You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ”

10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings;
Be instructed, you judges of the earth.
11 Serve the LORD with fear,
And rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry,
And you perish in the way,
When His wrath is kindled but a little.
Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.
” (Psalm 2:8–12, NKJV)

Psalm 110

1 The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”
2 The LORD shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion.
Rule in the midst of Your enemies!
3 Your people shall be volunteers
In the day of Your power;
In the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning,
You have the dew of Your youth.
4 The LORD has sworn
And will not relent,
“You are a priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek.”
5 The Lord is at Your right hand;
He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath.
6 He shall judge among the nations,
He shall fill the places with dead bodies,
He shall execute the heads of many countries.
7 He shall drink of the brook by the wayside;
Therefore He shall lift up the head.
” (Psalm 110:1–7, NKJV)

Ephesians 1

19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
” (Ephesians 1:19–23, NKJV)

Romans 14

9 For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living. 10 But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 11 For it is written:

“As I live, says the LORD,
Every knee shall bow to Me,
And every tongue shall confess to God.”

12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. 13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.
” (Romans 14:9–13, NKJV)
