Confrontation is a critical aspect of life in the Kingdom of God but does need to be done correctly.
So how does the human brain deal with this?
The Process
The mature order of operations in the brain should be to:
- first affirm our relationships,
- second notice any problems with others,
- third load in a careful understanding of what goes on in the other person’s mind (mindsight),
- fourth remember what it is like us and our people to do that will calm and satisfy the situation,
- fifth see this in perspective and see what it really means (Godsight,) and sixth, finally open our mouths to talk.
19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; 20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. ” (James 1:19–20, NKJV)
James says that the first sign that someone is being saved (and restored to normal function) is that they are quick to listen, slow to anger and slow to speak. That is a fairly good match for normal brain function.
Steps
- Affirm our Relationship (Love is Patient and Kind)
- Notice Problems with Others (Judge Righteously)
- Mindsight – Load Careful Understanding of the other person’s worldview (Bear with Weaker One)
- Remember what we do to bring Calmness and Satisfaction (Blessed be the Peacemakers)
- Godsight – see God’s reality and Perspective (He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes Is 11:3).
- Speak
Hierarchy and Procedure in the Control Centre
The right hemisphere of the brain holds an emotional regulation structure called the Control Center. This Four-Level Control Center tops the command hierarchy of the brain.
The four levels are:
The primary development of the control center is in the first two years of life, depends on proper stimulation of the brain, and is primarily non-verbal.
- 4-Identity: Who I Am In Christ
- 3-Synchronize Our Personality – Remain Relational and Synchronized
- 2-Basic Evaluations – Judging Good, Bad or Scary
- 1-Personal Reality (The Truth I Believe)
Understanding how the brain functions can be very useful when endeavoring to remain in the Spirit during confronation.
